Lavaman Triathlon Training  January 8,  to March 31, 2019 and Honolulu Triathlon Training February 19 to May 12, 2019.

“The Lavaman in Kona on the Big Island is an Olympic distance three sport event, consisting of a 1500 meter swim, 25 mile bike and 6.2 mile run.  The Honolulu Triathlon is also an Olympic distance triathlon, with relay options.

The training program focuses on preparing beginner to intermediate level athletes of all ages.

We will train three days a week:  Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Sunday 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  Training locations vary, and will be announced on a weekly basis.

Tuition:  $550 for both programs or $125 per month, or $375 per training.

Honu 70.3 Ironman Triathlon Training  February 9 to June 1, 2019.

Are you ready for one of the most rewarding experiences in sport: finishing the Ironman 70.3 in Kailua, Kona on the Big Island?  You will be with our state-of-the-art training program.

The training starts at 7 a.m. on February 9 and 10, with preparatory clinics on biking, strength training, and nutrition.  The first workout is Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

We will train four times a week during the training: Tuesday and Thursday evenings (in downtown Honolulu) and Saturday and Sunday mornings (at various Oahu locations).  You’ll have fun making new friends in the sport.

Tuition for the 70.3 Training is a flat fee of $395.  Students, retirees, and active-duty military pay $325.

Thinking about joining?  Plan now to attend the mandatory information meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the main Magic Island restroom in Ala Moana Park.  Please bring a beach chair to sit on.

2019 Tinman Triathlon Training | Defunct, as the Tinman is no longer being held.

Beginner Bike Training | July 7 to August 1, 2019.

Workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays (5:30 to 7:00 p.m.) and Sundays (7:30 to 9:00 a.m.), meeting at the Magic Island restroom in Ala Moana Park.

Don’t have a bike?  Not sure if you can ride?  Thinking of doing a triathlon but are not confident on a bicycle?  Our beginner bike training will introduce you to the joys of bicycling, while you see the world from quiet paths and roads so you learn the basics about bicycling.

Even if you don’t have a bike, you can rent a Biki Bike, or we will teach you about the differences in the types of bicycles so you can get one to suit you. You’ll also learn how to maintain your bike and change flat tires so you will never be stranded.

Come join us for this fun training that ends with an optional Camping/Bike weekend August 4&5.

This training will also prepare you for our Century Bike Training that begins on Tuesday, August 7 (see below). Note: The Century Bike Ride is on September 30.

Century Bike Ride Training | Aug 7 – Sept 30, 2018.

Workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays (5:30 to 7:00 p.m.) and Sundays (7:00 to 9:00 a.m.), meeting near Kahala mall.
The Honolulu Century Bike Ride is Hawaii’s major non-competitive participation ride, with four distances (25 miles, 50 miles, 75 miles, and 100 miles). Whether your goal is 25 or 100 miles, we will get you there by building your speed, strength, and mileage.

Island Triathlon Training (for beginners and intermediates) | This training has been discontinued in 2018 because the 2018 Tinman Triathlon is cancelled.


Beginner Swim Training | June 2 – June 30, 2019


Announcing the BC Beginner Swim Training, introducing beginners to the pleasures of swimming as a fun way to exercise. (Note: this training is not to be confused with the intermediate swim training starting on June 2. See below for that program description.)

Beginner Training Program Dates: June 3-28 (12 workouts) & Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30-7pm., and Sundays 7:30-9:30am.

There is no information meeting currently scheduled for this training. For an introduction to the training, please attend any of the first-week workouts, including the one on Sunday, June 3 at 7:30 a.m. at the restroom next to the Magic Island parking lot in Ala Moana Beach Park (directions below).

Directions to the Magic Island Parking Lot (for the first workout). From Pearl City on the H-1 Freeway heading east: Take the Kinau Street exit (22 east), and turn right at Ward Avenue. See below. Continue on Ward to Ala Moana Blvd. Turn left onto Ala Moana. Continue to the far end of Ala Moana Park. With Atkinson Street on your left, turn right into the park. Look for the first major parking lot on your left. We’ll meet in the parking lot near the restroom on your right.

What to Bring to the first workout? Bring your bathing suit and be ready to enter the water at the start times. If you have goggles or caps, bring those also. If not we will have some to share and talk about those and other swimming attire. Please bring a towel and a change of dry clothes for afterwards.

Tuition. $80 flat fee for 12 workouts. Come to the first no-obligation workout, meet coach Jaime Ubongen and try a gentle swimming workout.

Summer Swim Training | June 3 – September 2, 2019


Intermediate athletes can prepare for the North Shore Swim Series of five races, plus Duke’s Swim and the Waikiki Rough Water Swim during this 13-week training.

Athletes should have basic swim skills and be able to swim a 1000 meters without stopping in 35 minutes or less.

Workouts in Ala Moana or Kapiolani Park on Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and various locations around Oahu on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

There is no information meeting currently scheduled for this training.  Please attend the first workout on Saturday, June 2 at 8 a.m. at the Magic Island restroom adjacent to the Magic Island parking lot in Ala Moana Park (directions below).

Na Wahine and H-3 Tri Training (for beginners and intermediates) | Aug 4 – Oct 19, 2019

Train safely competently and enjoyably during this 11-week training preparing beginner and intermediate triathletes for the Na Wahine Triathlon and the H-3 Triathlon (dates to be announced).

Workouts on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m., and Sunday from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. accommodate beginner and intermediate triathletes of all ability levels. Even if you can’t swim across the pool, ride a bike, or jog 10K, we’ll teach you how to do each sport and train you race effectively.
