The longest-running marathon training program in Hawaii
Are You Ready?
Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner or considering this personal challenge for the first time, learn the correct racing skills from an endurance training master who’s helped thousands of people make the Honolulu Marathon a life-changing experience.
The Experience of a Lifetime
BC Endurance Trainings Mile-to-Marathon Training will prepare beginner, intermediate, and advanced level racers for the 52nd Honolulu Marathon on December 8, 2024, including adjunct training programs for the Merrie Mile on December 7 and the Start-to-Park 10K that runs concurrently with the marathon.
Below you’ll find information about the 17-week program training schedule and format, as well as how to secure your spot and get answers to any questions you might have.

You’ll learn to pace yourself correctly for best training and race results.
I’ve been running marathons for decades, but what’s really remarkable is that after 10-15 years of just accepting injury after injury, I have been injury-free for the year-and-a-half since I’ve been training with Brian. Many other programs push people too hard, but he really emphasizes rest and recovery in your training.
I’ve learned so much from Brian’s training programs. I realized that even though I did the Great Aloha Run many times, I really didn’t know that much about running. I didn’t know how to train properly. Brian’s not about just getting to the finish line, he teaches about proper form, proper technique, proper mindset.
Brian wants us to understand the science behind training. It’s not just going out every day and running hard. Sometimes it might look a little counter-intuitive, but at the end of the day it leads to results that can be sustained over the long term. I’ve learned that it’s not about running fast, it’s about running right.

The Schedule
Scheduling is our way of gathering a group that becomes a team for training and educational purposes. Please clear your schedule for the entire 17-week training. There is no time to lose, as the program’s effectiveness is built progressively.
Enrollment Period
After the information meeting on August 7, the two-week, in-person enrollment period begins on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Everyone will meet at the same downtown location, with Brian teaching the basics of warming up and doing hills and intervals correctly. Attending all six in-person workouts during these two weeks is an enrollment condition.
Enrollment Workout Schedule
The enrollment period lasts two weeks (6 workouts), including two weeknight workouts (Monday and Wednesday) starting at 6 p.m. (to allow time to get to the meeting place) in Kap‘iolani Park, and at 7 a.m. on Saturday at other locations. We teach the basics cumulatively, starting at an easy level so you don’t hurt yourself at the outset.
Post-Enrollment Workout Schedule
Our training continues after the two-week enrollment period with in-person workouts on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 6:30 a.m. On weeknights, individuals may train in groups (or alone, if you can’t make the group location) at four O‘ahu locations (Ewa, Central, Windward, and Downtown). Brian calls the shots and leads discussions during weeknight workouts via telephone conference call. On Saturdays, everyone meets in person at the same time and location according to the schedule.
Read the Schedule Closely
After the first two weeks, make sure you can train on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m., either alone or in one of our groups across O‘ahu and on Saturday mornings at 6:30 a.m.
Attend Information Meeting
Choose from teleconference information meetings on Wednesday, August 7 or Thursday, August 8 at 6 p.m. You will receive call-in information via email as part of your enrollment packet.

This gives you access to our exclusive member portal for the duration of the program. There is a $50 Early Bird Discount until midnight on August 8, but you don’t have to wait until then if you know you plan to enroll.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that’s not in this list, feel free to email us – we promise we’ll respond quickly.
Do I have to be in shape to participate?
The Mile-to-Marathon Program is designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced level participants. It is not appropriate for people in extremely poor health, nor is it geared toward elite athletes. If you’re unsure whether you can or should participate, please attend our information meeting on August 7.
What if I can't make all the enrollment period workout sessions?
Attending all six enrollment period workouts during the first two weeks is essential to building a foundation for subsequent training. Of course, we understand that things happen, but your goal should be to attend all six workouts on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 a.m. After the enrollment period, you will have the flexibility to train with supervised groups (or alone, if you prefer) in four different locations on O‘ahu during weeknights, with Brian providing guidance via audio conference call. On Saturday mornings, we always train together as a full group.
Can you explain your "hybrid" training format?
During Covid, we began to experiment with virtual training formats, where Brian guided participants via Zoom audio. However, the virtual format left out many key aspects of training, such as group support and receiving direct feedback from a knowledgeable eye. After several years of experimenting, we’ve found a happy medium where ALL workouts are in-person. On Monday and Wednesday evenings, these take place in different locations across O‘ahu to minimize commutes for participants, with trained team leaders supervising each group and Brian calling the shots via teleconference call. On Saturday mornings, Brian leads the workout in-person for the full group.
What if I miss the Information Meeting?
The information meeting is the first session in a two-week enrollment period with learning activities at each session. By the end of the first two weeks, you should be able to do our main workouts (including intervals and hills) so you can train effectively and without injury on your own or in a group during the rest of the training. If you are unable to attend the information meeting, you may listen to the recording which will be posted on the BC Endurance site. Please pay attention to our notifications, as we will have a second meeting if warrented on Thursday, August 8 at 6 p.m. Please also come to the first workout at the Running Room (819 Kapahulu Avenue) on Saturday, August 10 at 7 a.m.
