Running, Jogging & Walking Programs

Running programs are design to bring the best possible results in the shortest available time. Whether you are an advanced athlete or a beginner, fast or slow, you’ll be placed in a group that’s right for you.  Nobody gets left behind.

The Training Schedule.  Groups meet three times a week for workouts (two weeknight workouts and one morning workout on the weekend).  Typically, weeknight workouts begin with stretching at 5:30 or 5:45 p.m. and weekend workouts begin at 6:30 or 7 a.m.

Hapalua Half-Marathon Training |
January 4 – April 5, 2020

This is a 15-week training program preparing runners, joggers, and walkers for the Hapalua half-marathon on April 5, 2020.

Workouts are designed to build five racing abilities (stamina, power, tempo, speed, and endurance).  You’ll train with friendly people in scenic parks and quiet neighborhoods.

Our tempo intervals are controlled in ability-groups so you minimize your risk of injury.  The program also includes innovative power drills and two stretching routines per workout.

In addition to the Hapalua half-marathon, you may choose from three optional practice races: the Faerber 10K, the Great Aloha Run, the King’s Runner 10K.  We promise that you’ll do each race safely, competently, and enjoyably, with expert coaching and friendly group support.

The training takes place at two locations on the weeknights: Downtown Honolulu and Central Oahu, with workouts on Monday & Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.  The town and central groups combine on Saturday (at 7:00 a.m.) at various locations.

There is no information meeting for this training.  Instead, you may join us on Saturday, December 21, for the first of four workouts during the holidays.  You’ll learn how to run intervals and do power drills while you enhance your conditioning.

The Hapalua training begins on Saturday, January 4.  Late-comers returning to Hawaii from the holidays are welcome to join the training in progress anytime in January.

Cost for the 15-week program, including the holiday schedule, is a flat rate of $185 for newcomers.  Returnees, active-duty military, full-time students, and retirees pay $155.

Summer Walker-Jogger Fitness Program |
April 27 – July 20, 2019

A 13-week program at two locations: Downtown Honolulu and Central Oahu, with workouts on Monday and Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. (in Town) and 5:30 p.m. (Central), and Saturday at 7:00 a.m.

Enjoy post-workout meals with your buddies. Build a base of stamina in anticipation of the Honolulu Marathon Training, which begins in early August, and develop your strength with exercises built into the walking-jogging regimen.

The 12-week program costs a flat-rate $125. There is no information meeting for this training. Simply come to the first three complementary workouts for an introduction and orientation to the training.

Oahu Trail Training |
April 22 – July 6, 2019

Discover the beauty and challenge of running in the forests of the Koolau and Waianae mountains of Oahu.  This training will build a great base of long runs and hills for the marathon training that begins in early August.

The 12-week program is designed to prepare athletes of all levels for a series of three low-key, fun-run trail races. We begin on Monday, April 22, with workouts on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:00 a.m. We meet on the weeknights in Downtown Honolulu above Makiki, and at various locations in the mountains around Oahu on Saturdays. We guarantee that you will see areas of Oahu you have never seen before.

Cost for full participation in the 12-week program, including three workouts per week, is $195. The twice-a-week rate is $165 and the once-a-week rate is $135. Students and retirees pay flat rate of $115.

Sunday Trails for Hikers |
October 6 – November 24, 2019

Explore the scenic East Koolau ridge trails between the Makapuu Light House in East Oahu and Waahila Ridge above Saint Louis Heights. In the process, you’ll gradually build the strength to tackle the highest peaks in the Koolaus.

Workouts require a basic entry fitness level. Initially, you should be able to walk for 90-minutes on steep, rugged trails. This training is for active people who dare to enjoy the breathtaking vistas of Honolulu and the Windward side of Oahu from unbelievably exhilarating perspectives.

The program begins in early October and continues through the end of November, with eight 2-to-4-hour hikes on Sunday mornings starting at 7:00 a.m. Do the program for a flat rate of $75 or pay a drop in fee of $15 per session.

Honolulu Marathon Training |
July 29 – December 8, 2019

This 19-week training accommodates runners, joggers and walkers training for the Honolulu Marathon.

We meet in two locations on Monday and Wednesday evenings (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.): Downtown Honolulu (near UH Manoa) and Central (Waipio/Mililani/Pearl City).  Athletes from both locations meet together on Saturday mornings (6:30 to 9:30 a.m.) at various locations around Oahu.

Different ability groups at each location accommodate recreational athletes who do will the marathon between three and eight hours. One of these groups will be right for you. Nobody gets left behind.

Workouts include long weekend runs, with shorter hill and tempo workouts during the week. Two practice races are scheduled during the training so you can learn the disciplines of carbohydrate loading, pacing, hydration, and nutrition before attempting the Honolulu Marathon.

Come to the free information meeting on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Avenue from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Tuition. Newcomers pay a flat rate of $265 (installments okay) and returnees pay a flat $215. Students, military, and retirees pay $165.
